Chinese Empress His Ling Shi was the first person to discover silk as a weavable fibre in the 27th century BC. 

Whilst sipping tea under a mulberry tree, a cocoon fell into her cup and began to unravel. 

The empress became so amazed with the shimmering threads she discovered, after that she developed the cultivation of silks worms and invented the production of silk as a fabric.
